- Conference paperChallenges of Computer Science Tutors in Their Teaching: How can Educational Technology help?(Proceedings of DELFI 2024, 2024) Egetenmeier, Armin; Strickroth, SvenTutorial sessions led by student tutors are an essential part of teaching in large classes, e. g. in Computer Science (CS), to provide personal support and to guide learning. Although universities offer training and educators conduct regular meetings to assist tutors, the use of technology in their teaching practice is mostly unknown. This paper presents exploratory insights from focus group interviews with CS tutors to reveal tutors’ challenges, needs and current usage of educational technology in their teaching. The results show a lack of use of technology by tutors to improve their teaching or to gather useful information about their group in a structured way. The potential of educational technology to enhance tutorial sessions remains largely untapped. Possible technology-driven approaches and ideas proposed by tutors are discussed. Based on these initial results, the goal is to develop tailored technology-enhanced support and provide relevant information to tutors in the future.
- Konferenz-AbstractLearning analytics in the age of AI: Will we see the promised learning revolution?(21. Fachtagung Bildungstechnologien (DELFI), 2023) Poquet, OleksandraCurrent advances in generative AI represent a paradigm shift for educational technology. Affordances of generative AI change our perceptions of what can be possible, prompting to re-evaluate research questions, interventions, and applications in the field of educational technology. Against this backdrop, what should the focus on using data to inform teaching and learning look like? Learning analytics, an applied domain centred on data about learners, their processes, and learning artefacts, has gained traction over the last decade. The talk will take a historical perspective to position learning analytics within existing educational technology paradigms and discuss it within the context of AI, highlighting the adjacent possible for the future development.
- KonferenzbeitragWebWriter: A System to Author and Remix Explorables – Requirements & First Prototype(Workshops der 21. Fachtagung Bildungstechnologien (DELFI), 2023) Salmen, Frederic; Roepke, René; Schroeder, UlrikActive and personalized learning requires that teachers can remix a wide variety of sources into new learning resources, which in turn may be customized by students. While this is well-supported for paper-oriented resources, multimodal, interactive learning resources for digital use, called explorables, are much more difficult to author and remix. In this paper, we derive a set of requirements for a system to author such explorables from a workshop-based study. We further present a first prototype of such a system, called “WebWriter”.
