Adopting a cognitive style perspective in the interpretation of the results of recent studies revealed that users, depending on their cognitive style, follow different visual exploration paths when creating graphical passwords which affected the password strength. To take advantage of the inherent abilities of people, we proposed CogniPGA, a cued-recall graphical authentication scheme where a cognition-based intervention using gaze data is applied. This paper presents the longitudinal evaluation of the proposed scheme in terms of security, memorability, and usability from a cognitive style perspective. Results strengthen the assumptions that understanding and using the inherent cognitive characteristics of users could enable the design of user-first authentication schemes, where no compromises need to be made on security for benefiting usability or the other way around.

Contextual Influences on Mobile Player Experience – A Model Proposition(Mensch & Computer 2010 Entertainment Interfaces Track, 2010) Engl, Stephan; Nacke, LennartIn this paper we are discussing a new model of mobile gameplay experience with a special focus on contextual influences of play in ubiquitous environments. The model was developed based on prior general gameplay models which were extended and refined based on the results and personal experiences taken from several evaluative user field studies with mobile games. The experimental results point to two different playing contexts: home and mobile, which were evaluated with a gameplay experience questionnaire (GEQ). The GEQ showed significant difference in negative affect and immersion between mobile and home setting, which are moderated by several influencing contextual factors. This leads us to propose a contextual gameplay experience model that accounts for spatial, temporal, social, cultural, and psychological influences in an external context. The implications of the contextual gameplay model are discussed in light of future research.
- WorkshopbeitragA real-world driving experiment to collect expert knowledge for the design of AR HUD navigation that covers less(Mensch und Computer 2019 - Workshopband, 2019) Schneider, Matthias; Bruder, Anna; Necker, Marc; Schluesener, Tim; Henze, Niels; Wolff, ChristianAugmented reality head-up displays (AR HUD) can be seen as a promising advancement of conventional head-up displays in vehicles. Information can be displayed in a contact analogue way in the real world by projecting it onto the vehicle’s windshield. Two major challenges for concept developers are to reduce masking caused by augmented reality (AR) content and to create concepts that work with the limited field of view (FOV). To examine these two challenges, we designed two contact analogue navigation concepts. We compared them to each other in a field study with a prototype car that contained a complete AR HUD testing environment. The participants were experts in interaction design, AR, HUDs, design, and sales. The experiment showed that the application of Gestalt Principles for AR HUD concept design to reduce masking can be a promising approach. In addition, suggestions for further improvement of contact analogue navigation concepts were collected.
