Mining Data of Past Build Failures in an Automated Benchmark(Softwaretechnik-Trends Band 40, Heft 2, 2020) Rott, Jakob; Niedermayr, Rainer; Jürgens, ElmarIn software projects with growing functionality, the number of tests increases fast which results in long execution times for the whole test suite. As a consequence, it is not possible to always execute the whole test suite after each commit so that feedback time to developers increases. With long test feedback times, the effort for an early fix rises and developers can be hindered in productive work. One solution to reduce feedback times is test case prioritization. Although test prioritization strategies have been extensively studied, they are rarely used in practice and their benefits are widely unknown. In this paper, we present a benchmark framework to evaluate the benefits of different test prioritization algorithms on open source projects and primarily use the time until the first failure (TUFF) as relevant metric. We conducted an empirical study with 31 open-source projects hosted on GitHub, using data of 437 builds that failed on the CI server. In 75% of the builds, the first test will fail within the first 18% of the total test suite’s duration.
- KonferenzbeitragIntroducing a Framework for Managing Technical Debt Developed by Practitioners(Softwaretechnik-Trends Band 40, Heft 2, 2020) Wiese, MarionTechnical Debt (TD) and the subsequent problems are equally discussed in industry and scientific papers. In this paper we introduce a framework developed by an IT-unit in industry that tried to tackle these problems. The solution consists of methods to manage and repay technical debt. The goal of the framework is to provide a better overview of the TD items for the mangers of the IT-unit. Additionally, the framework is able to differentiate between general technical issues and TD as initially described by Cunningham.
- Conference PaperMTLG – Helping students and teachers creating and analysing simulations and games from a didactical and technical perspective(DELFI 2019, 2019) Leonhardt, Thiemo; Ehlenz, Matthias; Röpke, René; Bergner, Nadine; Schroeder, UlrikMTLG is a framework for the creation of animations, simulations and games that focuses on simple operation through multi-touch input, support for didactic implementation and the evaluation of learning data. The framework is completely web-based and therefore system and platform independent. Over several years, prospective computer science teachers and computer science students have used the framework in our e-learning labs and seminars. We have iteratively improved and enhanced the framework and its applications over several use cases in various computer science classes. The framework and all learning applications are available as open educational resources.

A framework, composed of the two existing interactive tools Gov2Demoss and Pnyx.eVoting, and a methodology to manage eParticipation initiatives have been created for this purpose. This paper studies the eParticipation obtained in 14 European universities where the framework and methodologies have been applied. The paper also describes the developed project framework, the methodology, the trial, the first preliminary participation results, and analyzes the main conclusions and lessons learned from them.

It focused particularly on methodological frameworks in the context of elicitation: How have frameworks evolved over time? What are the current needs for guidance? What are important challenges and relevant experiences? The workshop included peer-reviewed paper submissions, invited talks, and interactive discussion sessions.

- KonferenzbeitragA Testing Framework Architecture for Automotive Intrusion Detection Systems(Automotive - Safety & Security 2017 - Sicherheit und Zuverlässigkeit für automobile Informationstechnik, 2017) Corbett, Christopher; Basic, Tobias; Lukaseder, Thomas; Kargl, FrankVehicles are the target of a rising number of hacking attacks. The integration of in-vehicle intrusion detection systems is a common approach to increase the overall system security. However, testing and evaluating these systems is difficult due to the lack of tools to generate realistic benign and malicious workloads as well as sharing these workloads with other researchers. Currently, test- ing tools are predominantly intended for Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) in company or industrial networks where their usefulness became apparent. Yet, in the automotive domain, development of testing tools is still in the early stages. Existing non-commercial automotive tools only focus on one specific bus technology each. However, in-vehicle communication exceeds bus technology boundaries and a testing tool must cover multiple technologies. We propose a framework architecture concept for in-vehicle NIDS testing and evaluation to enable the creation of realistic network traffic and attacks in consideration of automotive specific challenges. Our concept provides the opportunity to share data without additional anonymization effort therefore improving cooperation and reproducibility of testing results.

Hypervisors offer so-called hypercall interfaces for communication with the hosted virtual machines. These interfaces require thorough robustness to assure performance, security, and reliability. Existing research focusses on finding hypercall-related vulnerabilities. In this work, we discuss open challenges regarding hypercall interfaces. To address these challenges, we propose an extensive framework architecture to perform robustness testing on hypercall interfaces. This framework supports test campaigns and modeling of hypercall interfaces.

However, modern cars expose a variety of digital services and process a variety of personal data, at least of the driver’s. This paper unfolds the argument that car (cyber-)security and drivers’ privacy are worthy of additional consideration, and does so by advancing “COSCA”, a framework for “COnceptualising Secure CArs” as interconnected nodes of the Next Generation Internet. COSCA adopts an innovative socio-technical approach. It crowdsources drivers’ perceptions on core privacy topics and it classifies the data collected by cars and processed by manufacturers pursuant the General Data Protection Regulation. These steps inform a risk assessment which highlights the more relevant mitigation strategies and cyber security technologies. Finally, COSCA aims at designing novel interfaces to enable drivers to exercise their rights about personal data collection and processing.
