- ZeitschriftenartikelAnwendung von Metaheuristiken zur Lösung betrieblicher Planungsprobleme(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 45, No. 4, 2003) Fink, Andreas; Voß, StefanApplication of metaheuristics within operations management — Potential and limitations of software reuse Business reality comprises a large variety of well structured problems (e.g. in production and logistics management), for which effective and efficient solution procedures are available from research. This includes metaheuristics such as iterative local search, tabu search and evolutionary algorithms. However, the implementation of these quantitative solution procedures as part of decision support systems usually requires problem-specific adaptations. To simplify this task we developed an application framework in C++, which represents various metaheuristics as reusable software components. These components can be used in arbitrary application domains. The framework clearly simplifies the effective practical application of metaheuristics. Nevertheless, a certain effort may be unavoidable if one aims at high-quality solutions in novel applications.
Letztere werden i. d. AbstractThe paper presents the results of a World Wide Web research on the relationships between information technology (IT) on the one hand and governance and compliance on the other. The research sheds light on two different roles IT can take up in governance and compliance. Firstly, IT is used as an instrument or tool in support of implementing governance and compliance in organizations. Secondly, IT is an important concern in governance and assurance of compliance in organizations, resulting in IT-governance and IT-compliance as issues of their own. Since the domains of governance and compliance overlap in some respect, both areas are not always properly distinguished. This can especially be observed in offerings of IT consulting firms and in the positioning of products of software developers and vendors which are often vaguely labeled as “Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Software”. An imprecise and somewhat inflationary use of the terms governance and compliance impedes a systematic analysis of the field.
Summary Design patterns and frameworks, two quite new concepts, allow the reuse of design and of individual design experience. A design pattern embodies local design experience that is related to a few classes, whereas a framework embodies a global kind of experience that covers essential aspects of an application. This article describes experiences with these advanced object-oriented concepts in computer-science education. Concrete examples from projects show how design patterns were successfully used by inexperienced students for designing parts of frameworks. The very positive experiences strongly encourage the inclusion of design patterns and frameworks into computer science education.
- KonferenzbeitragSustainable Software Engineering: Research Patterns and Trends through Artifacts from a Practitioner's Perspective(EnviroInfo 2023, 2023) Degbeon, Michaela; Helfert, Markus; Muller, Patrick RigotThis study aims to uncover trends and patterns in sustainable software engineering research, with a particular focus on artifact-oriented outcomes and a practitioner’s perspective. Continuous research on the topic of environmentally sustainable software engineering practices is essential to mitigate the environmental impact of software products and advance software processes that promote sustainability. Despite recognizing the issue, many software industry practitioners struggle to identify sustainability requirements for software products during software development. Many are unaware of any applied process models or other software engineering artifacts to support sustainability in software engineering practices. This working paper intends to map practitioner-focused outcomes and academic research in sustainable software engineering. By adopting a practitioner's perspective, we categorize 11 types of software engineering artifacts. These artifacts represent tangible research outcomes for software practitioners and help with systematically analyzing academic publications on sustainable software engineering between 2001-2022. The analysis is based on a three-stage literature screening process, out of which three intermediate datasets are analyzed. The study provides valuable insights into the trends and patterns of research output, emphasizing the significance of artifacts and acknowledging their contribution to the field. The aim is to promote sustainable software engineering by considering and mapping the perspectives of both academics and practitioners. Furthermore, it opens up opportunities for future research and development.
