AbstractThe paradigm shift of Industry 4.0 extends enormous pressure upon companies of all sectors and sizes. They need to cope with profound changes in their production technologies and processes in order to stay competitive. These changes can only be tackled jointly with the employees. Their willingness to change and their skill-sets need to be fostered with regard to the changing requirements in the production. Existing approaches to acceptance research and change management are not able to represent synchronous changes in technology and processes fully. They need to be extended in order to indicate the effect of change activities. The contribution of this article is to develop a model, which covers the entire spectrum of behaviour from acceptance over tolerance to overt opposition. The model is based on current aspects in acceptance research and connects it with change activities from change management. The main factors in this model are the willingness to change and the changeability. Both have an effect on technology and process changes and can be enhanced by change activities in order to compensate negative effects that would otherwise lead to the failure of the transformation to the Industry 4.0. The categorization of different change management activities and their impact on employee behaviour is brought forward by two scenarios. The first scenario covers incremental change through the introduction of Industry 4.0 islands into the production process. The second scenario discusses the transformation of on entire area of production to industry 4.0.
- KonferenzbeitragEnsuring a Robust Multimodal Conversational User Interface During Maintenance Work(Mensch und Computer 2021 - Tagungsband, 2021) Fleiner, Christian; Riedel, Till; Beigl, Michael; Ruoff, MarcelIt has been shown that the provision of a conversational user interface proves beneficial in many domains. But, there are still many challenges when applied in production areas, e.g. as part of a virtual assistant to support workers in knowledge-intensive maintenance work. Regarding input modalities, touchscreens are failure-prone in wet environments and the quality of voice recognition is negatively affected by ambient noise. Augmenting a symmetric textand voice-based user interface with gestural input poses a good solution to provide both efficiency and a robust communication. This paper contributes to this research area by providing results on the application of appropriate head and one-hand gestures during maintenance work. We conducted an elicitation study with 20 participants and present a gesture set as its outcome. To facilitate the gesture development and integration for application designers, a classification model for head gestures and one for one-hand gestures were developed. Additionally, a proof-of-concept for operators’ acceptance regarding a multimodal conversational user interface with support of gestural input during maintenance work was demonstrated. It encompasses two usability testings with 18 participants in different realistic, but controlled settings: notebook repair (SUS: 82.1) and cutter head maintenance (SUS: 82.7).
- WorkshopbeitragAn Industry 4.0 Production Workplace Enhanced by Using Mixed Reality Assembly Instructions with Microsoft HoloLens(Mensch und Computer 2020 - Workshopband, 2020) Hebenstreit, Matthias; Spitzer, Michael; Eder, Matthias; Ramsauer, ChristianEvery emerging technology raises the question which already existing processes and solutions can be replaced or adapted. Before implement these technologies they should be evaluated on their positive or negative impacts on already existing approaches. Furthermore, technical resources, organizational conditions and human factors have to be considered. In order to measure these impacts an appropriate industry scenario or use case should be defined. To foster the technology introduction in real world industry scenarios existing work processes were investigated and adapted. Prototypical implementations should give required insights to evaluate new technologies in defined use cases. In this work we introduce a Mixed Reality (MR) assembly instruction in manufacturing domain to support the worker in ensuring a zero failure culture. In an existing workstation of a scooter production line at the LEAD Factory at Graz University of Technology (TU-Graz) we introduced a emerging technology implemented on the Microsoft HoloLens. Based on this technology the existing textual instruction of one workplace was replaced by an interactive 3D assembly instruction. This paper describes the prototypical implementation of a MR assembly instruction with Microsoft HoloLens and summarizes the upcoming challenges as well as considerations and decisions during the implementation.
- TextdokumentMAC-layer Security for Time-Sensitive Switched Ethernet Networks(INFORMATIK 2020, 2021) Watson, Venesa; Ruland, Christoph; Waedt, KarlSecurity remains a key discussion point for industrial networks within critical infrastructure and Industry 4.0 (I4.0)/Smart Manufacturing infrastructures. While availability remains the chief security requirement for highest safety, integrity protection has become somewhat equal to availability in industry. Common integrity protection mechanisms, however, are not practical for the time-sensitive networks (TSNs) characteristic of I4.0 and critical infrastructures, where the time-critical and mission-critical transmissions cannot be negatively affected by the security overhead. To sufficiently protect and support TSNs, it is necessary to design an integrity protection scheme that provides lightweight security particularly at the OSI MAC-layer where the TSN protocols are defined. The development and testing of lightweight cryptographic algorithms provide one mean by which to achieve such an integrity protection, however, additional steps are needed to design and prove a suitable scheme. TSN-MIC is proposed as a viable scheme for MAC-layer security for TSNs in critical infrastructure and I4.0/Smart Manufacturing.
