- TextdokumentBusiness Models for Open Digital Ecosystems of Trustable Assistants(Open Identity Summit 2019, 2019) Mihale-Wilson, Cristina; Kubach, MichaelDigital ecosystems (DEs) are self-organizing, robust and scalable environments where various stakeholders interact to solve complex problems. The idea of building digital ecosystems is not new. Thus, we can currently draw on an extensive body of literature on the topic. Although academics have addressed the technical and architectural challenges of building digital ecosystems as well as their desirability regarding innovativeness and privacy, research on how to ensure the economic viability and thus sustainability of such DEs remains scarce. In this study, we address this void in the literature and focus on the economic challenges of building open DE. We discuss this topic in the context of an open DE for trustable assistants in the Internet of Things (IoT) and vet the research question: “which are the business models an open DE must support to be economically viable?" Based on a structured research analysis we identify seven business models, which are most likely essential to the economic success of the analysed DE.
- KonferenzbeitragA Human Digital Twin as Building Block of Open Identity Management for the Internet of Things(Open Identity Summit 2020, 2020) Zibuschka, Jan; Ruff, Christopher; Horch, Andrea; Roßnagel, HeikoIn networked industry, digital twins aggregate product data along the entire life cycle, from design and production to deployment. This enables interoperability between different data sources and analysis functions and creates an integrated data environment. Human digital twins have the potential to create a similarly interoperable and integrated data environment for more user-centric use cases in the field of the Internet of Things. In this case, personal data is processed and transmitted; therefore, the underlying infrastructure is then not product data management but identity management. In this paper, we discuss general aspects of the human digital twin, its role in open identity management systems, and illustrate its application in the field of home, building and office automation. We identify advantages and limitations and suggest future research opportunities.
- TextdokumentIAL: An Information Abstraction Layer for IoT Middleware(INFORMATIK 2020, 2021) Günter, Andrei; Schwarzer, Christopher; König, MatthiasThe internet of things is an ever-expanding world of connected devices and services. Through observation of analog and digital processes, plenty of information is continuously produced. More than often, the information thus obtained is tailored to serve one separate purpose. Existing architectures omit the fact that partial results can be enriched with meta information and can be shared among network participants while information is processed. We show that enriched and simplified information packages can be shared to facilitate cooperation between constrained and smart devices as well as to serve for system optimization. In this work, we propose an implementation of the so-called information abstraction layer which serves as collective resource for querying mechanisms to provide information. To emphasize and illustrate the need for a standardized information abstraction layer into existing middleware, we outline a realistic example of use and introduce concepts to build and evaluate shared information in networks.
- TextdokumentTowards Model-Driven Engineering for Quantum AI(INFORMATIK 2022, 2022) Moin,Armin; Challenger,Moharram; Badii,Atta; Günnemann,StephanOver the past decade, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has provided enormous new possibilities and opportunities, but also new demands and requirements for software systems. In particular, Machine Learning (ML) has proven useful in almost every vertical application domain. In the decade ahead, an unprecedented paradigm shift from classical computing towards Quantum Computing (QC), with perhaps a quantum-classical hybrid model, is expected. We argue that the Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) paradigm can be an enabler and a facilitator, when it comes to the quantum and the quantum-classical hybrid applications. This includes not only automated code generation, but also automated model checking and verification, as well as model analysis in the early design phases, and model-to-model transformations both at the design-time and at the runtime. In this paper, the vision is focused on MDE for Quantum AI, particularly Quantum ML for the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) applications.
- KonferenzbeitragWisdom of the IoT Crowd: Envisioning a Smart Home-based Nutritional Intake Monitoring System(Mensch und Computer 2021 - Tagungsband, 2021) Faltaous, Sarah; Janzon, Simon; Heger, Roman; Strauss, Marvin; Golkar, Pedram; Viefhaus, Matteo; Prochazka, Marvin; Gruenefeld, Uwe; Schneegass, StefanObesity and overweight are two factors linked to various health problems that lead to death in the long run. Technological advancements have granted the chance to create smart interventions. These interventions could be operated by the Internet of Things (IoT) that connects different smart home and wearable devices, providing a large pool of data. In this work, we use IoT with different technologies to present an exemplary nutrition monitoring intake system. This system integrates the input from various devices to understand the users’ behavior better and provide recommendations accordingly. Furthermore, we report on a preliminary evaluation through semi-structured interviews with six participants. Their feedback highlights the system’s opportunities and challenges.
