Digital enterprises face the challenge of combining business and IT to benefit from existing technological achievements in the digital age. Previous studies have shown that there are critical factors that influence the benefits of Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM). However, factors influencing the digital transformation have not been considered yet. An alternative and iterative research approach develops new success factors for enterprises that benefit from EAM. In this context, this paper builds on a qualitative research approach to examine additional factors and their impact on EAM. The approach is based on an extended structured literature review to build a new empirical research model. In addition, the indicators were validated by three different industrial case studies reflecting the benefit from EAM within the digital transformation process. The results of the extended research models and case study validation show that factors aggregated to the determinants IT Landscapes, Internal Business and EAM Establishment have substantially impact on the benefit of EAM in enterprises. Moreover, the authors found two factors (firm size and external business) in the model moderating & the effects on the benefit from EAM.
- TextdokumentIs There a Blueprint for Building an Agile Culture?(Projektmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle 2017 - Die Spannung zwischen dem Prozess und den Mensch im Projekt, 2017) Küpper, Steffen; Kuhrmann, Marco; Wiatrok, Matthias; Andelfinger, Urs; Rausch, AndreasEstablishing agile principles and values requires time becoming part of the organizational mindset. One approach is implementing selected agile methods first and waiting for the agile culture to emerge and mature. Nevertheless, it remains unclear if there is a way to improve the culture-building process by emphasizing factors that foster an agile culture. Research on factors that support a systematic development of an agile culture is rare. Hence, we aim to shed light on how an agile culture can be developed in a systematic way. To investigate approaches to initiate and stabilize a cultural change towards agile, we conducted a semi-structured interview with eight agile coaches. Our results comprise 50 factors that influence culture development. Furthermore, we identified two major phases of an agile transition. Even though different focal points are set, early and continuous management involvement is key to a successful transition. Nevertheless, our results do not indicate a generalizable blueprint-like approach for establishing an agile culture.
- TextdokumentThe Potential Value of Digitization for Business(INFORMATIK 2017, 2017) Härting, Ralf-Christian; Reichstein, Christopher; Jozinovic, PhilipIT know-how is one of the main drivers for digitization within enterprises. Besides, new business models evolve from recent digitization processes because of ongoing information technologies in the world of business. The question to solve within this paper is what is the potential value of digitization for business? Some managers are still hesitating or even refusing to enter their enterprises into a digital transformation. This study will be part of a better understanding, that considering several issues of digitization can be worth it! Based on a qualitative research by interviewing German-speaking experts, the authors found six factors (efficiency, innovation, data privacy, mobility, new business models and human integration) and two moderating effects (industry and firm size) that influence the potential value of digitization for business.
- KonferenzbeitragUnconsented data transfusions: attitudes towards extracting personal device data for public health emergencies(Mensch und Computer 2020 - Tagungsband, 2020) Watson, Colin; Smeddinck, Jan DavidDespite privacy and security concerns, personal data on smartphones could be of beneficial use to society, for example during national emergencies. User attitudes were collected through a small focus group approach to reveal what citizens’ opinions may be towards extraction of medical data in the event of a public health incident. Thematic analysis revealed four themes with an overarching theme of “my phone is part of my body”. This small-scale proof of concept study established individuals view smartphones akin to organs or limbs, where forced access, without consent, is assault. They consider the benefits to society of unconsented access to medical and other personal data on mobile devices must be overwhelming before such acquisition is considered acceptable. The analysis also points to the difficulty of gaining consent, a lack of knowledge about legal aspects, and a distrust about the state collecting data.
