Previous research showed benefits of AR for different industrial tasks especially for novice users, while other research suggests that AR was not superior to other means for novices. However, there is not much work that looks at the relation between initial exposure of users to AR (that is, if users have never used AR before) and different types of tasks. In this paper, addressing the field of car maintenance and repair, we look into the question of how AR support impacts the performance in familiar and unfamiliar task if the AR user has never used AR before. By running an experiment under field conditions, we investigate whether the familiarity of a specific repair task has an impact on the performance under AR guidance compared to a traditional repair guideline. Our experiment reveals interesting insights. First, we show that familiarity and routine have an important impact on adherence to (all) repair guidelines, which should be regarded in future studies. Second, despite its novelty and the corresponding added time to deal with AR, we found that guidance via AR worked better for unfamiliar tasks. This shows the potential of AR for guidance of industrial tasks in practice, and it brings up design suggestions for the implementation of this guidance in practice.

However, they are often time-consuming to create and difficult to access during work. This paper introduces an approach that simplifies the creation of video tutorials in the workplace and promotes their use during work. By utilizing smart glasses, practitioners can record video tutorials during their daily work processes and utilize them for knowledge transfer to other employees without much additional effort. This offers the advantage of directly and easily sharing expertise in the workplace without being constrained by time or location. Given the intended simplicity of this approach, the question arises whether it creates video tutorials that help people in their learning. The paper presents a study that compares the effectiveness of knowledge transfer using these video tutorials against traditional personal training methods in the workplace. With 18 participants from the nursing and production sectors, we observed the training and learning outcomes of using video tutorials on smart glasses over multiple sessions, comparing them with personal training, which is considered the standard for practical onboarding. The study results indicate that learning with video tutorials does not significantly differ in terms of learning outcomes from traditional personal training methods. Overall, this study highlights the potential of video tutorials with smart glasses for knowledge transfer in workplaces, while also identifying challenges and opportunities for optimizing onboarding processes for employees.

Such API design skills usually come from experience, but the API Design Fest intends to compress such experience into a dense course. While the original training event was intended for practitioners, we are interested in the applicability in software engineering education. Thus, we conducted a slightly adopted API Design Fest with students and report on initial insights. While we find the overall event and its API design activities suitable, we recommend extended preparation on breaking changes for future API Design Fests with students.
- KonferenzbeitragTowards Entropy-Based Requirements Elicitation(Information systems technology and its applications – 6th international conference – ISTA 2007, 2007) Kostanyan, Arkadiy V.; Shekhovtsov, Vladimir A.This paper presents our views towards constructing the universal parsing technique for the software requirements texts and the requirements elicitation technique based on the output of this parsing process. With the proposed parsing technique, it should be possible to achieve language-independent processing of the requirements texts. Source sentences are treated as systems with words as elements and with a state determining the set of links between elements. The main goal of the parser is to find the state of the system with the highest organization level by minimizing its entropy. The requirements elicitation technique extends trained indicator approach by Cleland-Huang treating inter-word links as indicators. The output of the elicitation process is the set of requirements information ready to be processed further using Conceptual and Aspectual Predesign techniques.
