They perform in complex problems yet unknown at design time, and highly efficient functions can be implemented without having to develop a precise algorithm for the problem at hand. Well-tried applications show the AI’s ability to learn from new data, extrapolate on unseen data, and adapt to a changing environment — a situation encountered in fl ight operations. In aviation, however, certifi cation regulations impede the implementation of non-deterministic or probabilistic algorithms that adapt their behaviour with increasing experience. Regulatory initiatives aim at defining new development standards in a bottom-up approach, where the suitability and the integrity of the training data shall be addressed during the development process, increasing trustworthiness in eff ect. Methods to establish explainability and traceability of decisions made by AI algorithms are still under development, intending to reach the required level of trustworthiness. This paper outlines an approach to an independent, anthropomorphic software assurance for AI/ML systems as an additional layer of trustworthiness, encompassing top-down black-box testing while relying on a well-established regulatory framework.

The regulated use of the trust services (e.g. qualified electronic signature or seal etc.) as well as that of the secure electronic identities provides a solid foundation for the advancement of digitization. The adequate evidence of electronic records as long as they are needed is a critical success-factor for trustworthy digital transactions. The trustworthiness of the transactions must be based on compliance with the basic values of authenticity, integrity, reliability, availability, confidentiality and transferability. After a first hype there are increasingly more considerations also in regulated industries to use DLT for digital processes which have to be accountable. In order to make them evident and to fulfil documentation requirements it is necessary that DLT fulfils the legal framework and prior art based on defined criteria for trustworthy digital transactions. This paper focuses on the challenges and requirements for utilisation of DLT for trustworthy digital processes including long-term preservation.
- WorkshopbeitragTrust in activity tracker measurement and its link to user acceptance(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Trommler, Daniel; Attig, Christiane; Franke, ThomasInaccuracies in data measurement can impair trustworthiness of activity trackers (i.e., wearable fitness devices) and, thus, constitute a usability challenge possibly impairing user acceptance. With the present research, we aim at advancing understanding of perceived trustworthiness of activity tracker measurement and its relevance for user acceptance. N = 79 users of activity trackers were surveyed regarding their daily interaction with the tracker, user experience, and user acceptance. Results indicated a substantial variance in perceived trustworthiness. Many users perceived suboptimal trustworthiness of the tracking of their activity data, indicating potential for optimization. Further, analyses showed that higher perceived trustworthiness of activity tracker measurement was indeed linked to higher user acceptance. The results highlight the potential of enhancing user acceptance of activity trackers by improving perceived trustworthiness of activity measurement.

The more the driver delegates control to the vehicle, the more salient the issue of trust in automated technology becomes. Misaligned trust can lead to mishandling of automation controls in individual instances and decreases the general acceptance of on-road automation on a broader scale. In this paper, we apply insights from trust research for dynamic web service interaction to the novel automated driving domain, in order to scope the problem space regarding trust in automated vehicles. We conclude that the appropriate communication of trustworthiness, the necessity to calibrate trust, the importance of intervention capabilities by the driver, and the unambiguous transparency of locus of control are all important aspects when in comes to understanding trust in automated vehicles.
