Standards for Ambient Learning Environments
Author:
Abstract
The integration of information systems is not a new challenge. As one instrument, standards provide interfaces for integrated information systems. With regard to the recent advent of modern technologies, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), additional standards must be taken into account. The main objective of this paper is to show an approach to integrate ambient solutions for learning and business processes and the corresponding applications. After introducing ambient learning, current technology, data, infrastructure, and learning technology standards are reviewed. We present a standard-based ambient learning environment being implemented at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
