Zusammenfassung
Consumers across the world are increasingly demanding that retailers and brands are transparent about their carbon emissions and their efforts to control these emissions. Global retailers and brands are looking for ways to engage their supply chains in these efforts. The Pearl River Delta (PRD) represents a large share of Chinese and global manufacturing for the retail sector and has a significant potential to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Recognizing the significant potential for both energy and cost saving in manufacturing in the PRD, WWF Hong Kong, partnering with Ecofys and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), developed the Low Carbon Manufacturing Program (LCMP). The program grants a label to participating manufacturers that measures a manufacturer’s carbon footprint and rewards manufacturers for lowering their carbon footprint over time. Furthermore, the program provides software tools for measuring and reporting a company’s carbon footprint and identifying potential areas for energy savings through GHG management and technology best-practice checklists. This paper describes the program and the software tools.
