Interdisciplinary Support Tool for Decision Makers in the Atlantic Forest of Southern Brazil

Zusammenfassung
The project aim was to develop an information tool to support decision makers both in understanding the interdisciplinary processes that lead to forest fragmentation in the Atlantic Forest and the adequate manner of collecting, storing and analysing relevant data. The proposed study was conducted in three phases. Firstly, main stakeholders and decision makers in the Guaraqueçaba situation were identified in order to assess their information needs. Secondly, a Geographical Information System (SIG) was used to integrate and analyse the most relevant ecological and social factors interacting in the region. Thirdly, a modular Environmental Decision Support System (EDSS) was proposed to improve dialogue between main stakeholders and to serve as a support tool for decision makers. The main interconnected modules for the proposed EDSS are Data Entry Module, Analysis Module, Validation & Scenarios Module and Results Module.
