Spatial Analysis in Web-based Systems

Spatial data accessible via the Internet gets much more useful in combination with Web-based analysis tools. This study describes the Virtual Database, a system for retrieval, analysis, and visualisation of distributed spatial data. The Virtual Database is designed to be extended with additional data repositories, processing components, and application modules. The logic of application modules is based on reusable components implemented in a Web container. Our experiences suggest that the management of components and access structures are improved to get more robust applications.
