Zusammenfassung
The location of the Berlin’s inner city area in the glacialvalley named Warschau-Berliner Urstromtal caused a natural groundwater level of only a few meters below the ground surface. The knowledge about the current and highest expected groundwater level is therefore important for Berlin's water management and also for the construction sector. As a result, a network of groundwater monitoring stations was started in the center of Berlin. Thus, time series with a long history were archived for several monitoring wells from Berlin’s inner city area. These time series allow a historical review of the groundwater fluctuations and also the economic development of the city of Berlin for the last 150 years. Using a newly developed web application, which illustrates the historical groundwater level fluctuations on an interpolated geostatistical surface, these developments can be presented impressively.
