This position paper reflects on the participation of stakeholders (mainly older adults, but also healthcare professionals) in a large scale research project. The focus is on barriers that researchers face(d) when it comes to increased participation, two of which are discussed in more detail: project set-up and bias. Then, example strategies from our project are described which can help stimulate researchers to increase participation. The four activities that are discussed are: collaborative reflection, sharing lessons learned, define risk mitigation actions together and drawing attention to project champions. These are small elements in the larger puzzle of participation.de
