Zusammenfassung

The Dual Degree Program (DDP) of engineering and medical sciences at the University of Tsukuba provides a case of institutionalizing the integration of patients’ and clinical needs in the design process of medical technologies. Based on the example of the graduation and the subsequent research of a medical engineer, it is shown how the DDP provides an institutional framework that significantly increases the interaction between patients, doctors, and engineers for the sake of participative design.
