Integrated assessment models (IAMs) are widely used in global change studies. The development of IAMs is faced with some problems, such as the coupling of different model parts and the preparation and management of large datasets. A way to solve the problems is the consideration of relevant standards and the use of a modular and open software architecture. Based on the different requirements of an IAM such an architecture has been developed. The main components of the architecture are described and re-sults of a first implementation of the components are given.de
