dc.description.abstract | For a sustainable development, the application of knowledge in all conceivable forms is needed. Based on scientific information, on communication including the media and supported by latest technology, there is a chance of changing traditional structures and cultural practices worldwide. In this paper, the role of environmental informatics (EI), Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and computer applications developed in TC 4.6 “Informatics for Environmental Protection” is emphasized. Starting with a survey on main environmental information and communication sources, a model of the effects of EI research results for awareness building is depicted. The field of “Enviromatics” is considered as a prerequisite for knowledge building and environmental management, including multilingual and transnational information exchange to foster ways towards a sustainable development. | de |
