We claim that a software assistant is a suitable approach to help reducing the complexity of the European emission trading scheme from the point of view of facility operators. We present the preliminary design of an assistant system called EmTrAs (Emission Trade Assistant) that will guide facility operators through the ‘jungle’ of the emission trading system step-by-step. To allow for a timely adaptation of the assistant system to changing requirements (e.g. due to legal changes in the emission trading scheme) we consider an implementation based on workflow technology and component-based software engineering.Design of an IT-Assistant System for CO2 Emission TradingText/Conference Paper
