Urbanization in Kampala has proceeded rapidly with the city extending and engulfing the hitherto rural areas and some formerly rural service centers or towns. As a major driver, urbanization-led land use and land cover change in Kampala metropolitan area has led to serious loss of arable land, degradation of ecosystems, environmental changes and social changes of the urban populations.
