In 1993 women made one per cent of the first year Information Technology students at the Technical university of Tampere, one of the big technical universities in Finland. In the same time, the figure was 42 per cent in the Computer Science Department at the University of Helsinki, in natural science faculty. There are no big differences between the teaching programmes of the two places but the space for women differs crucially. In the same way, the whole field of computing professions has comprised both possibilities and strong exclusion of women.deWomen in Computing in FinlandText/Journal Article0944-0925
