Applying multi-objective decision making methods to water quality management tasks compromises between ecological and man-made management operations will be obtained. The paper gives an introduction to model based decision support systems (DSS) . The special DSS REHSPROX was used to compute Pareto-optimal solutions of the DO balance of the river Lower Oder. Contradictory ecological and economical goal functions representing different management policies are taken into consideration. Multi-objective optimisation results show small effects of wastewater treatment upon the DO balance but stronger effects on BOD. According to these results optimal cost functions for investments are presented.Model based DSS for water quality management of river basinsText/Conference Paper
