- KonferenzbeitragCollaborative process development using Semantic MediaWiki(WM2009: 5th conference on professional knowledge management, 2009) Dengler, Frank; Lamparter, Steffen; Hefke, Mark; Abecker, AndreasOften organizational processes are rather informal, subject to frequent changes, and involve roles with unclear responsibilities. Nevertheless it can be beneficial for efficient organizational knowledge management to document and communicate such processes. In this context, current state-of-the-art methods and tools for process engineering do not provide the most appropriate instruments. In this paper we address this issue by combining traditional process engineering techniques with a collaborative, wiki-based approach. As a result we present an extension to Semantic MediaWiki featuring collaborative creation of a process description and the automated generation of its structured, graphical representation.
- KonferenzbeitragEconomic reflections on managing web services using semantics(Enterprise modelling and information systems architectures, 2005) Wolff, Frank; Oberle, Daniel; Lamparter, Steffen; Staab, SteffenIn Web Services Management different approaches are discussed. In this paper we analyse three options for Web Service Management: a) Web Services standards descriptions and tools (WS*), b) Semantic-supported and c) Automatic semantic Web Services Management. For the analysis of the differences we identify a number of use cases and investigate the information required for the management of Web Services. The three discussed options result in varying processes with considerable differences in the work efforts. As they involve different levels of investment which only repay on a number of similar WS- applications the discrimination between them is not straightforward. A number of factors must be included in the analysis. Based on the cost arguments and the actual status of standards we consider Semantic-supported management of Web Services to be the most promising option for near future.
- KonferenzbeitragOntology based specification of web service policies(Informatik 2004, Informatik verbindet, Band 2, Beiträge der 34. Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI), 2004) Grimm, Stephan; Lamparter, Steffen; Abecker, Andreas; Agarwal, Sudhir; Eberhart, AndreasAn ever-growing number of XML-based languages are used to describe Web Service related issues such as security (WS-Security Policy), access control (XAC-ML), or privacy (P3P-WS). While it is desirable to specify policies in a declarative way, these languages expose great diversity in both syntax and semantics making it hard to realize a unified system. Our contribution to this problem is twofold. First, we present an expressive formal notation for policies. Second, we show how requester-, provider-, and third-party policies can be used for choosing a suitable service while making sure that all relevant policies are obeyed.
