- KonferenzbeitragA Toolbox for Building up Process-based, Macro-economic Material Flow Models(EnviroInfo Dessau 2012, Part 2: Open Data and Industrial Ecological Management, 2012) Weidemann, Rainer; Poganietz, Witold-Roger; Lutz, Richard; Grieß, ChristinaUsing the example of CarboMoG, the Carbon Flow Model of Germany, structures and processes for process-based, macro-economic material flow models were analyzed. The aim is to create a toolbox, which can be used to assemble models of this kind from building blocks, to parameterize and calculate a model, and then to use the model for analysis tasks. It was investigated whether and how toolkits existing in the fields of material flow analysis and life cycle assessment could also be used for process-based, macro-economic material flow models. Unfortunately, it was found that no product could be used without massive adaptations. Thus, the development of an own toolbox was initialized.
- KonferenzbeitragBuilding Mobile Environmental Apps Using Web and Cloud Technologies(EnviroInfo Dessau 2012, Part 1: Core Application Areas, 2012) Schlachter, Thorsten; Weidemann, Rainer; Ebel, Renate; Schillinger, Wolfgang; Zetzmann, KlausSmall applications for mobile devices can be implemented relatively quickly, especially if they can draw on an existing service infrastructure. However, a number of small applications combined with a variety of supported mobile platforms lead to significant development and maintenance costs. The approach presented here combines the concept of a description of applications with the benefits of Web-technology-based cross-platform development.
- KonferenzbeitragConcept of a Universal Mobile Application Accessing Environmental Information Systems(Innovations in Sharing Environmental Observations and Information, 2011) Schlachter, Thorsten; Düpmeier, Clemens; Geiger, Werner; Weidemann, Rainer; Ebel, Renate; Tauber, Martina; Zetzmann, KlausConsidering the development of mobile applications, it can be noted that implemented processes often are very similar. The concept presented here describes a declarative approach to generating an entire family of mobile applications. These applications are based on descriptions of their functionality and appearance. Standard data formats are used for information interchange. Appropriate tools enable a cross-platform development and minimize the effort required for this.
- KonferenzbeitragElectronic Commerce für das Umweltinformationssystem Baden-Württemberg(Umweltinformatik ’00 Umweltinformation für Planung, Politik und Öffentlichkeit, 2000) Kramer, Ralf; Tomczyk, Peter; Tochtermann, Klaus; Schwartz, Susanne; Rainbold, Eduard; Geiger, Werner; Weidemann, Rainer; Henning, Inge; Reichel, Egbert; Ebel, Renate; Weissenbach, KurtCurrently, public environmental information systems (EIS) on the Internet provide all users with information free of charge. Costs for providing the information and reduced public budgets on the one hand, commercial use of these information through third parties on the other hand raise the question how far public authorities could charge for accessing information in public EIS. In this paper, we use the EIS of the state BadenWürttemberg, Germany, as an example to study the integration of electronic commerce functionality into a public EIS. Our study reveales that the technical integration is possible, but still changes of current organisational procedures are required to fully exploit the technical opportunities.
- KonferenzbeitragEnvironmental Information Network of Baden-Wuerttemberg – Integration of the Authorities’ Environmental Information(Sh@ring – EnviroInfo 2004, 2004) Schlachter, Thorsten; Ebel, Renate; Geiger, Werner; Sawade, Annette; Tauber, Martina; Weidemann, RainerWith the citizens being entitled to be provided with environmental information, the quantity of the latter increased as did the efforts needed to find the desired information on the many distributed web sites. The Environmental Information Network of Baden-Wuerttemberg (UINBW) presented here shall serve as a central access platform that facilitates search by offering a thematically structured approach and various search options to the user.
- KonferenzbeitragErschließen von Datenbank-Inhalten durch die Volltextsuche in Landes-Umweltportalen(Workshop des Arbeitskreises „Umweltdatenbanken / Umweltinformationssysteme“ der Fachgruppe „Informatik im Umweltschutz“, 2008) Schlachter, Thorsten; Ebel, Renate; Weidemann, RainerAbstract Comprehensive provision of environmental information to the citizen is the main goal of the environmental portals of the states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The second generation of these environmental portals goes beyond presenting data from classical web sites and also opens up additional information from databases and database driven information systems. This is realized by embedding a commercial search engine into the system.
- KonferenzbeitragIntegration of Environmental Information in Federal States’ Environmental Portals(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Environmental Protection: Concepts, Methods and Tools, 2009) Ebel, Renate; Schlachter, Thorsten; Geiger, Werner; Weidemann, RainerWith the citizens being entitled to be provided with environmental information, the quantity of the latter increased as did the efforts needed to find the desired information on the many distributed websites and other data and information sources. The Environmental State Portals of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia presented here shall serve as a central access platform that facilitates search by offering a thematically structured approach and various search options to the user. They all are instances of a pragmatic approach to the construction of environmental portals for the public.
- KonferenzbeitragKonzept für eine neue Generation von Landes-Umweltportalen(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Ecology, 2008) Weidemann, Rainer; Geiger, Werner; Schlachter, Thorsten; Zilly, Gerd; Ebel, Renate; Zetzmann, KlausThe federal states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia are jointly developing a new generation of environmental portals for these states. Typical problems associated with the implementation of such environmental portals will be analyzed and solutions pointed out. The paper will deal with the indexing of information that is not directly accessible by web crawlers, the integration of structured data from databases and especially of UDK (Environmental Data Catalogue) meta data, the interconnection with PortalU, the definition of technically or organizationally constrained search spaces, and problems of interfaces, in particular embedding of a commercial search engine in a system. First experience gained from the use of the Google Search Appliance as a component of the environmental portals will be reported.
- KonferenzbeitragDas ökologische Baustoffinformationssystem WECOBIS(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Weidemann, Rainer; Grieß, Christina; Jeske, Udo; Klingele, MartinaThe Information System on Ecological Building Materials (WECOBIS, http://www.wecobis.de) was developed under the research program “Zukunft Bau” of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development. In cooperation with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, the University of Augsburg, and various experts from other institutions, KIT created a web-based system that provides architects and building owners with information about environmentally relevant properties of building materials. System development focused on an editor component for the participating experts to supply the contents of the system and maintain them in the long term as well as on aids to embed WECOBIS in an integrated system of harmonized planning and evaluation tools for the building industry. In January 2009, a first production version was completed and presented to the public by the then Minister of Building, Tiefensee, at the BAU 2009 fair.
