- WorkshopbeitragPreface for Workshop on Virtues and Values in Conceptual Modeling and Requirements Engineering(Modellierung 2024 Satellite Events, 2024) Rachmann, Alexander; Gulden, JensEthics and human values in developing software systems have long been a topic of discussion. A satisfactory solution like a collection of methods or model gallery for ethical argumentation has not yet been developed. The workshop provides a discussion forum in which various methods for incorporating human values into system development are discussed, as well as models, methods, and other specification techniques for incorporating values into conceptual modeling. Four submitted contributions are part the workshop. In a second practical part, the workshop gives a theoretical and practical introduction to the Square of Values (SoV) modeling approach.
- WorkshopbeitragVirtues and Values in Conceptual Modeling with Subject-Orientation(Modellierung 2024 Satellite Events, 2024) Elstermann, MatthesThis work delves into the problem domain of modeling human values, specifically focusing on the subject-oriented paradigm. The goal of this workshop contribution is to explore the thought that the choice of modeling paradigm profoundly influences the expression and exchange of ideas/values with and within models and that Subject-Orientation, as a paradigm, possibly offers a unique and interesting foundation for that by leveraging its intrinsic ties to natural language structures. The work discusses the core tenets of Subject-Orientation, with its explicit consideration of active entities, and their relationships with passive elements and activities during modeling, especially of complex process systems as they are prevalent in the discussions of modern society. It then navigates through the implications of Subject-Orientation on expressing values, emphasizing the precision required in attaching values to specific entities as well as the paradigm’s impact on the inclusion of human elements in modeling. Furthermore, the exchange of values during the modeling process itself is explored, arguing that Subject-Orientation supports meaningful representations and facilitates the exchange of values among stakeholders. The explicit intent of this brief contribution is to spark discussions and especially encourage those unfamiliar with Subject-Oriented thinking to explore its advantages and drawbacks compared to modeling unrestricted by specific paradigms.

- WorkshopbeitragPreliminary experiences teaching ethical reasoning methods for ICT(Modellierung 2024 Satellite Events, 2024) Mao, Xinyu; España, SergioStudents currently graduating from programmes on information and computing sciences face a challenging professional landscape. Society is increasingly aware of the social and environmental dilemmas and trade-offs that ICT development and usage entail. Ethical reasoning methods for ICT allow applying moral principles and frameworks to evaluate and guide the development and use of technology in a morally responsible and socially beneficial manner. We have been teaching some of these methods to master students for several years. In this paper, we describe how we do that, reflect on our experience, and deliver some advice to improve the learning experience. In the short term, we intend to facilitate the inclusion of ethical reasoning methods for ICT in information and computing science curricula. In the long term, we hope this will increase the industrial adoption of such methods, resulting on beneficial effects in society and the environment.
- KonferenzbeitragVisualizing Model and Data Differences with Inline Diff Editors in an Enterprise Low-Code Platform(Modellierung 2024 Satellite Events, 2024) Butting, Arvid; Greifenberg, Timo; Hölldobler, Katrin; Kehrer, TimoComputing the difference between models is a foundation for solving various challenges in model-driven engineering. Models of low-code platforms are often of non-textual nature to be suited best for citizen developers as their creators. This poses special challenges for visualizing model differences. In this talk, we extend an approach for visualizing model differences via diff editors derived from the original model editors of the low-code platform by a novel kind of diff representation called inline diff editors. The approach improves on the previous approach through a concise form of presentation and by avoiding the generation of new user interface and data models for the editors.
