- ZeitschriftenartikelA Differentiated Discussion About AI Education K-12(KI - Künstliche Intelligenz: Vol. 35, No. 2, 2021) Steinbauer, Gerald; Kandlhofer, Martin; Chklovski, Tara; Heintz, Fredrik; Koenig, SvenAI Education for K-12 and in particular AI literacy gained huge interest recently due to the significantly influence in daily life, society, and economy. In this paper we discuss this topic of early AI education along four dimensions: (1) formal versus informal education, (2) cooperation of researchers in AI and education, (3) the level of education, and (4) concepts and tools.
- KonferenzbeitragAn Anthropomorphic Approach to establish an Additional Layer of Trustworthiness of an AI Pilot(Software Engineering 2022 Workshops, 2022) Regli, Christoph; Annighoefer, BjörnAI algorithms promise solutions for situations where conventional, rule-based algorithms reach their limits. They perform in complex problems yet unknown at design time, and highly efficient functions can be implemented without having to develop a precise algorithm for the problem at hand. Well-tried applications show the AI’s ability to learn from new data, extrapolate on unseen data, and adapt to a changing environment — a situation encountered in fl ight operations. In aviation, however, certifi cation regulations impede the implementation of non-deterministic or probabilistic algorithms that adapt their behaviour with increasing experience. Regulatory initiatives aim at defining new development standards in a bottom-up approach, where the suitability and the integrity of the training data shall be addressed during the development process, increasing trustworthiness in eff ect. Methods to establish explainability and traceability of decisions made by AI algorithms are still under development, intending to reach the required level of trustworthiness. This paper outlines an approach to an independent, anthropomorphic software assurance for AI/ML systems as an additional layer of trustworthiness, encompassing top-down black-box testing while relying on a well-established regulatory framework.
- KonferenzbeitragCloud-based Processing of data from Non-Target-Analysis for Tracking Micropollutants in Surface Water(EnviroInfo 2022, 2022) Pauw, Viktoria; Hayek Mohamad; Shojaei, Elham; Hachinger, Stephan; Müller, Uwe; Bader, TobiasTens of thousands of chemicals used by consumers, agriculture and industry enter the aquatic environment as micropollutants every day. Using targeted analysis we are so far only able to detect a small subset of the chemicals that are present. Therefore so called non-target screening (NTS) using liquid chromatography in combination with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LCHRMS) is increasingly used by labs to perform more comprehensive monitoring. However, a high degree of variance in measurements and processing workflows results in low comparability of data from separate laboratories. On one hand this is caused by differences in processing techniques which are due to stationary laboratory equipment and on the other hand by differing priorities in the detection strategy and evaluation workflow. The K2I project funded by BMBF aims at fostering collaboration between laboratories by providing a joint platform for uploading and processing LCHRMS data. A cloud based datalake and processing pipeline is being developed. A standardized processing workflow can then be executed which is enhanced by data mining tools including machine learning techniques. An indexing and searching software is employed to create a web based access to the processed data for participants.
- TextdokumentComparing Link Grammars and Dependency Grammars for parsing German histological reports(SKILL 2022, 2022) Dörenberg, JulianThe availability of structured data is becoming an increasingly critical factor in medical research. Still, pathologists in Germany document their findings in running text instead of in a structured form. In order to obtain structured data from these report texts, hey have to be converted to a more useful form. Link Grammars (LGs) and Dependency Grammars (DGs) both can be used to parse the texts. Hence, LGs and DGs can be used for information extraction on histological reports. This paper aims to compare LGs and DGs, to show why DGs are superior and to evaluate the performance of a DG parser on a corpus of 200 histological reports randomly selected from breast biopsy reports. The DG parser achieved an Unlabelled Attachment Score of 96, a Labelled Accuracy of 95 and a Labelled Attachment Score of 93. Further evaluation shows that the occurrence of medical words which have not been part of the training data does not affect the parsers performance.
- KonferenzbeitragCompliance of agricultural AI systems – app-based legal verification throughout the development(44. GIL - Jahrestagung, Biodiversität fördern durch digitale Landwirtschaft, 2024) Kruse, Niklas; Wachter, Paul; Schöning, JuliusSignificant advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have been achieved; however, practical implementation in agriculture remains limited. Compliance with emerging regulations, such as the EU AI Act and GDPR, is now vital, even for non-critical AI systems. Developers need tools to assess legal compliance, which is complex, often requiring full legal advice. To address this issue, we are developing a support app that simplifies the legal aspects of AI system development, covering the entire lifecycle, from conception to distribution. The current app, which covers the key legal area of copyright and will soon include GDPR and the AI Act, aims to bridge the gap between AI research and agriculture. An evaluation of our app by experts from both the legal and the IT domains shows that the app assists the developers so that they make legally correct statements. Consequently, it promotes legal compliance and awareness among developers, contributing to the seamless integration of AI into agriculture. The need for compliant AI systems in various industries, including agriculture, will only increase as regulations evolve.
- KonferenzbeitragConsidering the Regulatory Framework of the AI Act: Cybersecurity in the Technical and Legal Integration of Dialogue Systems(INFORMATIK 2024, 2024) Reckziegel Weschenfelder, LucasIn this paper we aim to provide a concise commentary on the possibilities of technical integration within the regulatory framework established by the AI Act. It will focus on the conception of dialogue systems and their interoperable functionalities, highlighting their interactions as and with other AI systems deployed as cybersecurity products or services. The analysis advocates for and acknowledges the need for a broader contextual dialogue between regulations that may influence this technological environment.
