- WorkshopbeitragConceptual design and implementation of an automated metrics and model-based usability evaluation of UI prototypes in Figma(Mensch und Computer 2022 - Workshopband, 2022) Bertram, Lara; Dahm, MarkusEvaluations should be conducted regularly throughout the development of interactive applications to ensure and improve usability. Automated approaches can enable time- and cost-effective evaluations, as the participation of test and expert personnel is not required. Especially in early phases of development, usability evaluations could thus be made possible without much effort. This paper describes a concept for automated usability evaluation of UI prototypes that supports the design and can complement classical usability evaluation methods. To test this concept, a plugin was implemented that evaluates design drafts in the Figma prototyping tool. The evaluation is based on usability metrics, a GOMS model for modelling interaction sequences that also supports predicting processing time and hint patterns for identifying usability problems in interaction sequences. The tool was tested and evaluated in a number of trials, which provided insights into the suitability of the concept and identified approaches for further development.
AbstractService-oriented architectures are widely discussed as a design principle for application and enterprise architectures. Nevertheless, an adequate granularity of services has not yet been researched sufficiently from an economic perspective. The finer the granularity to realize the functions of a process, the higher the number of services is, and the more effort has to be directed towards composing them. In contrast, very coarse-grained services bear the disadvantages of higher implementation costs and lower reuse potential (e.g., in different processes). The aim of the decision model proposed in this paper is to determine an adequate granularity of services from an economical perspective. Thus, degrees of freedom, which often exist for the choice of granularity after a domain analysis, can be leveraged to realize a cost-efficient solution. We illustrate the applicability and practical benefits of the decision model with an example from the context of a financial services provider.
AbstractAs result of a dynamic environment and constantly increasing pressure of competition, companies have to reduce their total cost of ownership and simultaneously flexible their IT solutions. The business model software as a service is an alternative to traditional software and is deemed to be an important IT trend. Stricter conditions and continuing growth of competition companies are the drivers of software as a service. Until 2025 it is expected that the turnover of SaaS is likely to increase. In particular, financial parameters have to be considered separately. This paper therefore provides a contribution to financial key performance indicators of SaaS. At the beginning we will highlight and explain the differences of both software sales models. Subsequently we will present success factors of SaaS and derive potential key performance indicators. The results conduce as recommendations for software suppliers.
- WorkshopbeitragMetrics for Analyzing Variability and Its Implementation in Software Product Lines: A Systematic Literature Review(Software Engineering and Software Management 2019, 2019) El-Sharkawy, Sascha; Yamagishi-Eichler, Nozomi; Schmid, KlausThis summary refers to the paper Metrics for analyzing variability and its implementation in software product lines: A systematic literature review [EYS19]. The paper was online first in 2018 and was finally published 2019 in the Information and Software Technology (IST) journal. The use of metrics for assessing software products and their qualities is well established in traditional software engineering. However, such traditional metrics are typically not applicable to Software Product Line (SPL) engineering as they do not address variability management, a key part of product line engineering. Over time, various specialized product line metrics for SPLs have been described in literature, but no systematic description of these metrics and their characteristics is currently available. This paper presents a systematic literature review, where we identify metrics explicitly designed for variability models, code artifacts, and metrics taking both kinds of artifacts into account. This captures the core of variability management for product lines. We discovered 42 relevant papers reporting 147 metrics intended to measure various aspects of variability models or code artifacts. We provide a categorization of these metrics and discuss problematic issues regarding the definition of the metrics. We also systematically assess the evaluation status of the metrics showing a current lack of high-quality evaluation in the field. Researchers and practitioners can benefit from the published catalog of variability-aware metrics and the assessment of their evaluation status.
- KonferenzbeitragOn Criteria and Tooling for Cryptographic Inventories(Sicherheit 2024, 2024) Schmitt, Nicolai; Henrich, Johanna; Heinz, Dominik; Alnahawi, Nouri; Wiesmaier, AlexanderWhen cryptography becomes insecure, a migration to new schemes is required. Often the migration process is very complicated, but the time available is very limited. Only if the used cryptographic algorithms, protocols and configurations are known can a system be efficiently and fully adapted to changed security situations. This creates the need for a crypto-inventory that gathers this knowledge. Consequently, the question arises what criteria a crypto-inventory must fulfill to support this adaptation. It also highlights the need for tools to assist compilation. We therefore conducted a literature survey and extracted key requirements. Missing content was supplemented by expanding existing requirements or adding new ones. Furthermore, appropriate metrics were assigned to assess the fulfillment of the requirements for a certain crypto-inventory implementation. Regarding the tooling, we identified five major areas of interest — installed software, connected hardware, communication, stored data and source code scanning — and provide prototypes for semi-automatic creation of crypto-inventories for three of them. This provides organizations with a starting point to understand their cryptographic landscape as a prerequisite for crypto-agility and crypto-migration. However, theoretical design and prototypes have not yet been evaluated. This will be done as a follow-up to this work. All types of organizations are invited to participate.
AbstractThe availability of high-quality business process models is a central prerequisite for a successful process management. Nevertheless, in practice process models exhibit a large number of quality deficits, among them grammatical, content-related, and stylistic defects. In addition, there exist only very few approaches to determine the quality of business process models. In this paper, we present the 3QM-Framework, an analytical approach to systematically determine the quality of business process models. The 3QM-Framework makes three contributions: it provides quality marks, metrics, and measurement procedures to quantify the quality level as elements of a theoretically justified quality model. The applicability of the 3QM-Framework has been empirically evaluated in case studies. The results of a survey that was conducted among experts moreover attest its practical relevance.
