- KonferenzbeitragBasisdaten zur Beschreibung gesundheitsrelevanter Umweltbelastungen der Menschen in Deutschland(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Conrad, André; Kolossa-Gehring, Marike; Wintermeyer, DirkPeople are exposed to various environmental pollutants which may cause acute or chronic health effects. Examples of these environmental stressors are noise or pollutants in the air, water or food. In general, the environmental exposure can be quantified by two main approaches: human bio monitoring (HBM) and exposure modeling. HBM and exposure modeling complement each other. In many cases only their combination is able to convey a conclusive picture of the extent and causes of a health-relevant environmental exposure. Because of this, the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) uses both approaches for quantifying and assessing the population’s exposure to environmental pollutants that may cause health constraints. Moreover, the UBA provides extensive HBM results and standardized data for exposure modeling to the scientific community.
Already in 1998, the legislature has decided to inform the public about alternatives to biocides. It followed a feasibility study should identify how this project is best developed. The results of this study were the basis for creating the “Biozidportal” with all facets of its development. From the legal commissioning, design studies to the finished product. It describes technical requirements, consumer analysis, selection of a Content Management System (CMS) and the implementation by an agency.
- KonferenzbeitragHIPPOLYTOS – Intuitive, übergreifende Recherche von Umwelt- und Geodaten mittels semantischen Technologien(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Lukács, Gergely; Kazakos, WassiliosData on the environment and geographic data are often stored in databases as structured data. The thematic coverage and the number of useful analysis and visualisations are usually very broad and therefore challenging for the user. These challenges are also in the focus of the INSPIRE-directive and the SEIS-initiative. The platform disy Cadenza allows to query, analyze and visualize environmental and geographic data. Its approach -- especially the general functionality and the configurability – allows implementing large scale scenarios economically. In this contribution, a current development of the platform is presented, a so called “single-field-search” on the basis of semantic technologies. The drastically simplified view of the user as well as the architectur-extension is presented. The work is partially financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research
- KonferenzbeitragInformationssystem zum Waldmonitoring in Europa Datenmanagement im EU-Projekt FutMon(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Hosenfeld, Friedhelm; Rinker, Andreas; Schnack, Klaus; Granke, Oliver; Mues, VolkerThe FutMon project funded by the European Union (EU) demanded for the development of a web-based information system managing forest monitoring data. One main focus of the described system consisted in supporting the project partners in different nations in Europe to make their forest monitoring data available in a central database. By means of comprehensive validations and consistency checks a sound data quality could be achieved, which facilitates extensive and effective evaluations of the acquired data for project partners and third parties. A wide range of validation rules which are maintained and flexibly configurable within the information system controls the data compliance and conformity checks, giving the possibility to react adequately on changing requirements and up-to-date findings. The newly designed and developed information system additionally offers an administration area including functions to monitor data submission processes, to inspect and compare the managed data using tables, digital maps as well as diagrams.

- KonferenzbeitragIntegration von Fernerkundungs-, Geo- und Gesundheitsdaten in Geodateninfrastrukturen für die Vorhersage von umweltbedingten Gesundheitsgefährdungen – EO2HEAVEN(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Richter, Silke; Brauner, Johannes; Kunz, SiegbertThe EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project EO2HEAVEN (Earth Observation and ENVironmental modelling for the mitigation of HEAlth risks) contributes to a better understanding of the complex relationships between environmental phenomena and their impact on human health. The project monitors pollution with emphasis on the atmosphere and water. By integrating the public health sector and strong cooperation with IT and service providers from the Earth Observation and in-situ environmental monitoring domains, EO2HEAVEN follows a multidisciplinary and user-oriented approach. The result of this collaboration is the design and development of a GIS-based Spatial Information Infrastructure (SII) supporting the investigation of environment-related health risk exposure and providing respective early warning systems.
- KonferenzbeitragDas internetgestützte Informationsportal Naturschutz und Gesundheit (NatGesIS) im Bundesamt für Naturschutz(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Job-Hoben, Beate; Pütsch, MichaelBetween nature and health respectively nature conservation and health protection various positive linkages exist such as in the context of recreation and outdoor exercise, natural medicine or healthy food/alimentation. These interactions have been proven recently by science. However, the understanding of the links between nature (conservation) and health in the broader public as well as in the scientific community is often limited to existence of a functioning nature and environment as a basis for human health (see Classen et al., 2005). But nature conservation can offer an important contribution to the enhancement of a healthy life style and the creation of a healthy environment. The positive synergies between the two fields should be used to create a greater public awareness on the “health value” of nature. This is useful to better the campaign for nature and to enhance the acceptance for nature conservation. To achieve these goals a strategic approach to communication is needed. This approach should integrate different target groups such as experts in nature conservation and health, but also a broader public with their different needs, motives, values and norms. A systematic editing of available information concerning nature conservation and health in Germany and their provision for a broad range of users is available up to now. The elaboration and implementation of a web-based information system on nature conservation and health by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation is filling this gap.
- KonferenzbeitragLänderübergreifende Bodenzustandsdaten Werkzeuge und Anfoderungen aus Sicht des Umweltbundesamtes(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Hilliges, Falk; Maharens, StephanThe soil monitoring in Germany is organized and executed by the federal states. This results a multiplicity of heterogeneous data storages in various formats. With regard to the requirements of the German federation, these different data management systems are very derogatory to a transnational reporting. Since 2008 the German federal environmental agency provides a free database (bBIS) to all operators of soil monitoring stations. Therewith all operators of soil monitoring stations obtain a modern and upgradeable application for capturing, storing and analyzing their data. If the operator of the soil monitoring station uses bBIS, the data exchange is realized by an easy import/export function (XML, XLS, CSV). The following essential functions are given in bBIS: automatic aggregation of single measured values, administration of measured values of partial areas, separately administration of basic data (attributes of location and profile), capture of cultivation data and configuration of individual queries. If a federal state uses its own established data management, the exchange can also be realized by the documented bBIS XML exchange file. With this format it is possible to program a permanent interface between the specific data management in the federal state and the bBIS database. Thus are all conditions fulfilled for an annually data update between the federal states and the German Federal Environment Agency. The last finished application upgrade was an allencompassing template for plant data. For the prospective use of bBIS the next step will be the implementation of a general upgradeable code of methods. This codification is aligned with the scientific forestry community where this code is established for years. Furthermore it is intended to arrange several automatic reporting functions. Also it is scheduled to adapt the application for future demands like INSPIRE.
- KonferenzbeitragNoxen-Informationssystem NIS – ein Stoffinformationssystem für den Öffentlichen Gesundheitsdienst (ÖGD)(Datenanforderungen und Informationsgewinnung zum Themenbereich Umwelt und Gesundheit, 2010) Finke, Cerstin; Müller, DirkThe Noxious Agents Information System (NIS) is a database containing data about health related effects of environmental pollutants and thus reflects the current state of scientific and administrative evaluation of environmental chemicals. The database serves the Public Health Service (PHS) in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1992 and nation-wide since 1995 as an information base for the environmental health work and is increasingly used by environmental authorities. The task of evaluation of environmental influences on health is generally based on federal states law, in North Rhine-Westphalia NRW on the Public Health Service Act. Since 2008, NIS is provided by LANUV NRW, Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz (State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection) in the department of environmental medicine, toxicology and epidemiology. The further development of this information system is guided by an advisory board of representatives of environmental hygiene departments of the sixteen federal states. The NIS database covers 600 substances that are especially important in local health departments for environmental health issues.
