AbstractTo provide a long-term solution to the big challenges cities are facing, such as the increasing scarcity of resources, innovative concepts are necessary. Smart cities apply advanced information and communication technology to include their citizens, to create sustainable, social and ecological urban space and to optimize their services based on the needs of their users. One approach is the concept of the sharing economy in which (partially private) material goods and other resources are rented out or shared for free. As a shareable city, a city is able to integrate the different approaches of the sharing economy by providing an advanced and well-functioning (economic and social) infrastructure. In Swiss cities, there already exist some (planned and) functioning sharing concepts, especially in the field of car sharing, but also in other areas. PostBus Switzerland Ltd. offers various sharing-services too. For a better understanding, existing projects are illustrated more closely and the theory is supported with practical examples. Especially, the mobility platform NordwestMobil of PostBus Switzerland Ltd., which bundles several mobility offers in the greater area of Basel on one platform, is exemplified.
