In this paper a prototypical information system for recycling companies is described. The system is under development at Europe University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) in Germany. It provides decision support for typical problems small and medium-size recycling companies are facing. Such problems are, for example, the determination of optimal dismantling paths for disassembly of complex technical products and the calculation of disassembly costs. Important features of the information system are tree-like structures representing hierarchies of similar products and dismantling paths. In the latter data structure, properties of recycling bills of materials and disassembly routings are combined. The system uses fuzzy logic to allow for uncertainty in disassembly, and provides features for ex post controlling of stocks and costs. Technical aspects of the underlying implementation are briefly outlined.
