Zusammenfassung

We developed and evaluated a novel project assignment tailored to computer science Bachelor freshmen, which challenges them to program a self-driving car using robotics, as part of orientation week at our university. The project assignment is a main element of our orientation week, supporting the transition of our new students into the higher education system. Therefore, we facilitate peer-to-peer interaction, encourage students to reflect on their academic role, and focus on skills they need for studying. A requirements analysis is the basis for the redesign, leading to improvements in achieving the program objectives. Evaluation results support the significant effectiveness of the redesign. The requirements developed can serve as a blueprint for creating engaging project assignments for various other degree programs and beyond. The assignment is available on the ZOERR platform licensed under Creative Commons.
