Zusammenfassung
This paper examines the implementation and outcomes of electronic voting (e-voting) in Albania. As e-voting systems are increasingly adopted globally to enhance electoral efficiency, transparency, and accessibility, this study focuses on Albania's specific context as a transitional democracy. The research investigates the theoretical foundations of e-voting, its global practices, and the associated benefits and challenges. However, it also addresses significant challenges, including security concerns, the digital divide, and public skepticism. The paper presents a detailed analysis of Albania's e-voting pilot project, covering three consecutive elections. The findings provide valuable insights into the practicalities of integrating technology into the electoral process from the point of view of two out of the three authors that were part of the planning and implementation team in the Albanian EMB, contributing to the broader understanding of e-voting.
