GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Broberg, Anders; Hägglund, UlrikaThe amount of information that people have to handle in their everyday life has increased and more is asked of their cognitive ability to select and assimilate the information that is important to them. One way to facilitate the cognitive work is to match information objects with each other and select/filter the ones that are relevant. To do this selection objects must be represented in such a way that comparison is possible. This paper presents the virtual bookshelf approach, which means that the user collects information that he/she finds interesting, and from this collection an information space is created aimed to be used for comparing and deciding the relevancy of new objects.

However, motivation obviously plays a key role in education. This paper reviews the state-of-the- art regarding adaptation to motivation. Open research issues that need to be addressed are identified.
- KonferenzbeitragCourse Generation Based on HTN Planning(13. GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Ullrich, CarstenA course generator automatically assembles learning objects retrieved from one or several repositories to a greater unit. Different frameworks for course generation exists, but only a few allow the representation of sophisticated pedagogical knowledge. In this paper, we describe course generation based on pedagogical tasks and methods, formalized in a hierarchical task network (HTN) planner. We describe the moderate constructivist learning strategy we implemented in this framework, problems that arouse from using HTN planning and their solutions. A first evaluation supports the practical value of our approach.

GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Baus, Jörg; Krüger, Antonio; Kuflik, TsviThe goal of the proposed research is to enhance group experiences in a museum by: (1) intelligent distribution of information across several devices, allowing members of a group to follow a public presentation while their personal interests are addressed through individual annotations on a private device, and (2) navigation support of the whole group, by finding a route through the museum that maximizes the interests of all group members and helps to mutually explore and uncover most of the relevant topics related to a cultural heritage site.

GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Gütl, Christian; Mödritscher, FelixOne main objective of the AdeLE research project is the research and implementation of an enhanced, flexible and Web-based adaptive e-learning system by the application of finegrained profiling and modeling information using multimodal sensor data in real time. Based on our knowledge about a wide range of existing learning management systems (LMS), we have decided to develop an approach to connect and control existing LMSs in order to extend them with adaptability or adaptivity. Backed on our experiences of the first fully functional implementation of the AdeLE system, we introduce our approach towards a generic adaptive system applicable for Web-based learning management environments in this paper.

The work is located in the research area of mobile computing and deals with the combination of mobile and stationary devices.
- KonferenzbeitragConfiguration and Introspection of Situated User Support(13. GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Baldes, Stephan; Kröner, Alexander; Bauer, MathiasUser support which takes into account the user‘s current context is a key issue of ambient intelligence applications. In this contribution we address the question of how a user may configure and keep control of situated user support. Background of our work is a system, which creates an augmented, personal memory from events perceived in an instrumented environment. We show how the user may –assisted by the system– perform a collaborative introspection of this memory in order to learn about and to exploit past events for user support. In particular we discuss methods for evaluating events and for acquiring proactively feedback in order to improve the quality of a binding between situations and system services.

GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Cheniti-Belcadhi, Lilia; Henze, Nicola; Braham, RafikIn this paper we propose the outline of a service based architecture for bringing assessment techniques to open e-learning environments. We first describe a use case scenario for a generic assessment framework offering personalized assessment generation and then present its basic architecture as part of the Personal Reader Frame- work. The generic assessment framework enables the search for the appropriate assessment resources after checking the learner’s last saved performances and specific needs (e.g. language preferences, device requirements). In our assessment framework personalization functionalities are available as web services. The communication between these services is based on the Semantic Web technologies and does not need a centralized control. The assessment functionalities are defined in a separate Web service, which a user can subscribe/ un-subscribe as s/he likes.

GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Herder, EelcoIn this article we update and extend on earlier long-term studies on user’s page revisit behavior. Revisits are very common in web navigation, but not as predominant as reported in earlier studies. Backtracking is the most common type of page revisitation and is both used for finding new information and relocating information visited before. Search engines are mainly used for finding new information and users frequently backtrack to result pages. Visits to pages already visited in earlier sessions tend to occur in chunks, but it is not straightforward to create a list of most likely pages that will be revisited. We conclude with a short discussion on design implications for user-adaptive revisitation support.
- KonferenzbeitragMUSE: A Multidimensional Semantic Environment for Adaptive HypermediaSystems(13. GI-Workshop "Adapitivität und Benutzermodellierung in interaktiven Softwaresystemen", 2005) Carmagnola, Francesca; Cena, Federica; Gena, Cristina; Torre, IlariaThis paper proposes a semantic framework built on multidimensional ontological planes for the design of adaptive systems. The core of the framework is composed by three matrices whose different planes contain the ontological representation of different types of knowledge. On these planes we represent user features, her actions, context, device, content domain, adaptation goals and methods. The join between planes allows us to represent semantic rules for inferring new user features and to define adaptation strategies. We exploit OWL (Ontology Web Language) to rep- resent taxonomic knowledge and SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) for rules. The frame- work presents a new approach to build adaptive hypermedia systems that support interoperability.
