This paper presents the concept of object oriented modeling and simulation of carbon flows in Austria using ASPECT (Analysis and Simulation of Processes with an Efficient Computing Tool). This object-oriented simulation tool has been developed and put to use at Vienna University of Technology (VUT) since 1991. ASPECT facilitates understanding of systems of complex material and energy flows. In this paper we describe a successful interdisciplinary team work performed by the Research Institute for Chemistry and Environment, VUT, and the Austrian Research Centers Seibersdorf in developing a model for carbon flows in Austria.de
