This study demonstrates the use of environmental informatics methods in the MENA region, where sustainability approaches still face major challenges. The following case study focuses on the analysis and optimisation of the environmental performance of BariQ, a PET recycling factory in the MENA region. Through the application of a MEFA, an LCA and an environmental benchmarking with a competitor in Europe, the Egyptian company’s level of performance and areas with potential for improvement are identified. Additionally, a photovoltaic system is set up and evaluated as an optimisation attempt of BariQs environmental impact.en
