Over the past years a new development in the use of the internet has been emerged – the Web 2.0. The central issue to be addressed in the use of Web 2.0 is that the user becomes more (actively) involved, and in some cases responsible to keep Web applications active and updated. Although there has been done a lot of academic research to date, the potential of Web 2.0 concerning sustainability issues has been mainly disregarded. But this gap could be bridged because of an obvious link to sustainabilityparticipation. The goal of this paper is to figure out if this link should be strengthened focusing on three applications, wikis, blogs, and podcasts, which are already verified in educational aspects. This will this will be examined by using the method of qualitative content analysis to find indicators for an effective communication in the sense of sustainability communication.de
