dc.description.abstract"What you see is what you get" is generally treated as a technically superficial phrase, but it is an outstanding maxim because both the user and designer understand it in the same way; any reasonable interpretation of it could have been implemented. A stronger phrasing (or rather, the same phrasing more strictly applied) has wider implications for system design and retains the generative potential for users. By providing facilities for "manipulative display", the form of a dialogue may further direct and enhance the users' interpretation of its content.de_DE
