Zusammenfassung
This short position paper explores the potential of Extended Reality technologies to serve as valid proxies for real-world settings, particularly in the field of Human-Robot Interaction. With advancements in devices like Microsoft's HoloLens 2, Extended Reality simulations may replicate real-world experiences closely enough to transform industrial and research workflows. This transformation could reduce costs and the need for physical experimental setups. The paper discusses the critical factors towards achieving this ideal. We therefore discuss convincing simulations, the importance of evaluating user responses, and our own current efforts within in that regard. By conducting comparative studies and leveraging the potential of Extended Reality technologies, we aim to understand better the conditions under which Extended Reality can effectively substitute for certain physical settings, providing valuable insights for future research.
