- KonferenzbeitragA proposal for a new framework for a great place to work: a cognitive- collective view on knowledge work motivation(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Bildstein, Ingo; Güldenberg, StefanManagement in the industrial economy focused on increasing the productivity of single manual workers, because it was easy to determine individual contributions to tangible outputs. Hence carrot-and-stick motivational schemes did a good job in spurring individual work effort. Nowadays however, that motivational approach is outdated and counterproductive, due to the intangibility of knowledge work inand output. Fostering of non-reward-contingent voluntary efforts to deliver outstanding results is therefore decisive for making management of knowledge a success in these days. At the same time group processes must be considered, due to the growing importance of expert teams for complex problem solving. Most importantly, becoming an attractive organization for experts is an important toehold to gain sustainable competitive advantage, since it allows for attracting and retaining the 21st century`s most valuable asset. The paper at hand therefore takes a cognitive-collective view on knowledge work motivation, by showing how a beneficial perception of peers and superiors together with a culture conductive to collaboration overcome the Tayloristic relict, meaning focusing in productivity enhancement initiatives on experts as isolated individuals.
- KonferenzbeitragA refined case-based reasoning approach to academic capacity planning(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Poeppelmann, DanielAcademic capacity planning is a knowledge-intensive process that has to be based upon predicted course demand. Planners have to take into account students' current course achievements, prospective future course selections, time constraints as well as a wide range of different rules for graduation. The research project proposes a refined case-based reasoning (CBR) approach for anticipating students' future course selection as a means of long-term demand forecasting. The case-base is dynamically interpreted with regard to stored cases' problem descriptions and solutions. Moreover the structure of cases is heterogeneous depending on the students' course achievements. The retain phase of the traditional case-based reasoning cycle is replaced by an adjustment phase that ensures retaining up-to-date, real-world cases only. The results of the case-based reasoning processes are aggregated to support capacity planning.

- KonferenzbeitragWMINDIG - Interdisziplinäre und indigene Methodenvielfalt im Wissensmanagement(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Vladova, Gergana; Weber, EdzardThe first workshop on “Indigenous and Interdisciplinary Methods in Knowledge Management” brings researchers and practitioners with interests in intercultural and interdisciplinary knowledge management topics together. The workshop mainly addresses three issues: The importance of indigenous knowledge and the challenges for its management, The importance of experience exchange between various research disciplines regarding the methods used in managing the knowledge creation and its transfer. The uniqueness of intercultural knowledge transfer (with focus on industrial knowledge management)
- KonferenzbeitragInfluence factors for sharing open science and open educational resources through social networking services(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Kalb, Hendrik; Pirkkalainen, Henri; Pawlowski, Jan; Schoop, EricIn a knowledge society it is crucial to serve the need for accurate and up-todate knowledge produced by scientists. The possibilities of electronic communication through the use of social software provides means for open discourse and offers easier ways to make scientific and educational resources available that can be used in knowledge management and e-learning. Within this paper, we describe how researchers share knowledge in the form of artefacts. These artefacts consist of open science and open educational resources. The focus will be on understanding the influence factors for sharing these artefacts with social networking services. Through the research, an improved understanding of the decision making and sharing habits of a researcher will be obtained for the use of social software for globally distributed and open scientific communication.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopment of a competence management system: an algebraic approach(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Fortunato, Laura; Lettera, Serena; Totaro, Salvatore; Lazoi, Mariangela; Bisconti, Cristian; Corallo, Angelo; Pantalone, GiovanniThe complexity in engineering processes of high technology companies needs to carefully and efficiently manage the human resources competences dedicated to the related activities. Focus on an Italian aerospace company, Alenia Aeronautica, the paper wants to illustrate the use of set theory in order to represent objects, rules and indexes of the competence management methodology. This mathematical formalism allows to easily represent the complexity of this context and to guide the implementation of a future competence management system (CMS). In addition, the use of an algebraic approach allows the implementation of a competence management information system that may be customized to any industrial context. In addition, this flexible structure can be easily modified to respond to a continuously changing competence scenario related to the business environment.
- KonferenzbeitragA mash-up architecture for learning environments and knowledge management systems(6th Conference on Professional Knowledge Management – From Knowledge to Action, 2011) Hoisl, BernhardIn recent time a new trend can be recognised on the Internet in general and especially in learning environments and knowledge management systems by moving away from monolithic 'one-provider-fits-all' to a combinatorial 'mixingpieces-together' approach. Mashing-up stands for the re-use, -combination, and -organisation of small software artefacts of clearly defined functionality. Subsequently, mashed-up learning or knowledge management systems describe the idea of highly customisable environments shifting substantial personalisation possibilities from administrators to the end-users. This shift has significant impacts on infrastructure requirements of learning and knowledge management systems as well as on software design decisions. Therefore, this paper describes an approach for a mash-up architecture, making use of small software artefacts which are capable of being easily integrated in various systems.
