Zusammenfassung

Many countries face challenges from aging populations, leading to increased frailty and multimorbidity among the elderly. This results in higher demands for long-term care and a rising number of care-dependent individuals, compounded by a shortage of professional caregivers. These factors underscore the critical role of informal caregivers, who often experience significant physical and psychological burdens. Despite available support, many caregivers remain unaware of their roles and the assistance they can access, becoming ‘hidden’ caregivers due to the gradual assumption of their responsibilities. We introduce an AI-based conversational agent (CA) developed using the Design Science Research (DSR) approach. Our CA supports informal caregivers by facilitating their adjustment to caregiving roles and encouraging openness to external help. By integrating insights from nursing science and unlearning support, the CA promotes the discarding of outdated role beliefs and connects caregivers to care support services, thereby enhancing care quality.
